Next IRMS London Event - 2nd March 2017

Please join the IRMS London group for an informative and interactive session led by David Bowen on "Preserving E-mails – Which? Why? How long?".

The session is designed to facilitate discussion, focussing on which e-mails need to be preserved and why; looking at standard records management retention questions and at historical archival reasons.  We will ask how long the e-mails need to be preserved, and see what differences this makes to the preservation methods selected.  Finally we will look at methods for selecting, capturing and preserving e-mails, ranging from manual methods (which require personal responsibility) to fully automated systems (which can require a significant budget).

Our usual format for the evening will include networking, sandwiches, tea and coffee from 5.30pm-6.30pm followed by David's session at 6.30pm-8pm with time for questions.

The meeting will be held at the OFWAT offices in meeting room 4 on 21 Bloomsbury Street, London. The closest tube stations are Tottenham Court Road, Goodge Street, and Holborn.

I'm pleased to announce our next IRMS London Event on 26th November. Katharine Schopflin joins us to speak on the role of the information profession in organisations - why information is important to organisations, why they need information managers to help them manage it and how far we are should be doing it for them. 

Katharine has recently edited a book called a "Handbook for Information Professionals" and will be inviting contributors to join her at our event.

Book signings will also be held at the event and there will be a prize draw to win a copy! Further details here 

The IRMS London event will be held at the Offices of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman in Millbank Tower, near Westminster. Networking, tea, coffee and sandwiches from 5.30-6.30, speaker, Q&A and signings 6.30-8pm.

We're very pleased to announce our forthcoming event on 1st July. 

The very popular and entertaining speaker from the 2014 IRMS Conference Stephen Bonner joins us once again to talk about the link between the cyber world and records management. Using his wealth of knowledge and experience of working in the information security profession, Stephen will lead us in a discussion on the place of records management in this changing world. 

Thanks are also due to Stephen for hosting our IRMS London event at KPMG's office. Join us from 5.30-6.30pm for nibbles and networking followed by Stephen's talk at 6.30pm and Q&A. Event close at 8pm.

London Group update

It has been a while since we've been in contact isn't it! Apologies for this. 

Firstly, there have been some changes to the leadership of this Group. 

After many years, James has sadly decided to step down as Chair of the IRMS Group. He will be sorely missed but I am sure James will still join us at meetings as a member. I also look forward to inviting James to give a presentation on his PhD research. Good luck and thank you James for your many years of running the IRMS London Group.

I am now back from maternity leave and Bilal Ghafoor will be staying on to help co-chair the group. Thanks Bilal! 

We are in the process of finalising dates for the coming year. We are planning meetings for every 2 months. The first meeting will be held on 1st July. Further details to be announced very soon. 

Finally, we would like to encourage you all to take part actively in our group. We are sure we are all doing some excellent stuff in your own workplaces, or maybe you are doing a PhD and now is your opportunity to share your learning, experiences and knowledge! If you would like to present a talk at one of our meetings do please send a short summary to us by 30th June 2015
