Saturday, 21 January 2017

The IRMS about to make a start on Module 3 of the Records Management Toolkit for Schools which will cover Independent Schools. Module 2 for Academies is currently being formatted and prepared for publication.

We are looking for volunteers from the Independent School sector to be a part of this project. We will need:

·         People who are able to give us a steer about what should be covered in the RM Toolkit for Independent Schools
·         People who are able to check retention periods for accuracy
·         People who would be prepared to proof read and comment on the drafts as they appear

If you are involved in records management in the independent schools sector and would like to be a part of this could you let me know with an indication of which section you would be prepared to assist with. Just for our information could you also indicate if you are a member of the IRMS.

Equally, if you are unable to be involved actively in the project but have some thoughts about what it would be useful to include please do let me know.

September Public Sector Group Meeting

Thursday, 16 July 2015

The next meeting of the Public Sector Group will be taking place on Friday 25th September at the Westminster Archives Centre. The theme will be “From Physical to Digital”. Our sponsors are TNT Business Solutions. We are delighted to welcome Chris Bellekom from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers in the Netherlands as our keynote speaker. He will be speaking about managing digital postrooms. Jonathan Engel (Infoark) will address the challenges in finding relevant information.  It will review the types of metadata available to comprehensively describe content, and how these can be utilised in a standard approach to content tagging. This standard approach – involving multi-faceted taxonomies extended with synonyms, related terms and contextual keywords – can also be aligned with high-level data models. Finally, he will discuss how this approach can be implemented through automated content classification, improved navigation and search, persona-based information delivery and document lifecycle management. We are still finalising the arrangements for the afternoon, but we are hoping to cover some aspects of digital continuity. The meeting is free of charge. If you would like to book a place please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Preferential booking will be given to IRMS members until 2 weeks before the event, so please state whether you are an IRMS member when you book. New Public Sector Group Secretary

Thursday, 11 June 2015

We are pleased to announce that Sarah Graham (Records Manager at NHS England) will be joining the Public Sector Group team as secretary from the beginning of July (in preparation for the meeting in September).

Sarah has had long associations with the PSG back when it was the Local Government Group and she used to deal with the email communication for the Group (this was before the list serves came online). Due to a change in work circumstances she had to take a break from the Group for a while and she joined us again last year.

Sarah has been involved in a number of the projects we’ve on such as the LGCRS and the original Records Management Toolkit for Schools, so she and I have worked together over a number of years and on a number of projects and we’re both really excited about working together again.

The team now consists of myself as Chair, Jenny Obee who is looking after all the finance and Sarah as secretary
