IRMS Scotland is a dynamic group which not only discusses topics relevant to information management but also provides great networking opportunities for members to exchange news, ideas, as well as learn new skills from fellow information management professionals. Its members come from a wide range of sectors including: central and local government; financial services; charity; pharmaceuticals; engineering and utilities as well as a range of specialist service providers.

IRMS Scotland is represented in specialist information communities such as the Scottish Council on Archives (SCA), Archivists of Scottish Local Authorities Working Group (ASLAWG), and has a good working relationship with the Archives and Records Association (ARA).

Chair

Claire Johnson; Claire is an experienced IRM professional with a background in education and charity sectors. She is currently an independent consultant with experience of regulatory organisations. Her research interests include the practical implementation of digital preservation initiatives for IRM and archive resources.

She teaches on several university courses and is passionate about training and learning for new and mid-career professionals.

 

 

    Alison Fernie

Communications

Alison Fernie; Alison has been working in the Records Management field since starting work at the Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner in 2003, before the new (at the time) Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act went live in 2005.  Since then Alison has added to her experience by completing a Masters in Information Management at the University of Glasgow and worked for two public authorities to help reduce their physical holdings via scanning projects.  Alison has recently completed a two year project to facilitate a move for the British Geological Survey from their previous offices to a new site.  This involved the relocation, scanning and or disposal of a substantial volume of records.  Alison is now responsible for the ingestion, accessibility and preservation of data deposited with the BGS.  Alison is passionate about the benefits of records management practices to aid efficiencies in work practices.

  

Secretary

Robert Fotheringham; Robert has worked at the National Records of Scotland for almost 15 years undertaking a variety of roles during that time. As well as a customer focused role in the Search Room, he has also provided archival and records management advice to courts and other legal bodies. He is currently a member of the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011 Assessment Team based at West Register House in Edinburgh and is responsible for assessing records management provision in public authorities in the form of their Records Management Plans.

 

Joe Chapman

Joe Chapman; 
Joe is the main point of contact for all aspects of information management at Aberdeenshire Council. He has previously undertaken a review of information processes across the organisation, and played a key role in reforming the use of email and shared drives. He's currently supporting a number of major IM projects, including SharePoint implementation, master data management, enterprise architecture, and Health and Social Care Integration. He's passionate about communication and collaboration, and leapt at the opportunity to join the IRMS Exec team in Autumn 2015..
