IRMS Conference 2016: A newbies perspective
Not only is 2016 my first Conference as part of the Exec, it’s my first IRMS Conference at all! So what am I most looking forward to? As always there’s a great line-up of speakers – both as keynotes and in breakout sessions; there will be plenty of opportunities for informal networking and to speak to the vast range of exhibitors; and of course there’s the Sunday social and Monday night gala providing a relaxed interlude within the 3 whirlwind days of learning!
But above all what I’m anticipating the most is an event that reflects the inclusive nature of the IRMS. It’s refreshing to be at a conference that kicks off with a session designed to allow the Exec and others to welcome all, but especially first-time, attendees – not to mention the buddy scheme that ensures newbies are never made to feel left out.
I must also mention the Conference App, which allows delegates to start the conversation long before they even arrive – providing an ideal ice-breaker and opening topic of conversation when meeting new people. As a delegate, let alone an Exec team member, I hope the activity stream sees a lively discussion throughout the conference – I, for one, will certainly be contributing when I can. There’s even a prize available for the best Tweet!
Returning to the programme itself, the fantastic mix I described above doesn’t produce itself, so a big thumbs-up to the organising committee led by our Conference Director Reynold Leming and the team at Revolution Events. If I had to pick out sessions to personally highlight, I’d say breakouts C4 (with Noeleen Schenk) and E1 (by Lee Edwards)… which by complete coincidence – no, really – are the ones that I’ve been given the responsibility of chairing, so I hope to see you there!
You’ll find details of our full Conference programme here but please do also find the IRMS Conference 2016 app in the App Store or on Google Play. You can find me personally on Twitter as @joechapman30 but keep an eye on the hashtag #IRMS16 for all the social media buzz.
If you’ve already booked to attend then I’ll see you on Sunday afternoon at the Conference Fringe. If you are yet to book you can still register (until this Friday) via the IRMS Conference website.
