IRMS Conference 2016: More than just a Conference
This is my 7th IRMS conference as an 'Information SuperHero' but my first as IRMS secretary. For the last few months, amongst the various duties of the Secretary, my primary focus has been on ensuring that we are ready for the Annual General Meeting which is taking place on Monday 16th May at 4.30pm. Like most typical AGMs it is an opportunity for members to comment on and directly influence the management and direction of the Society. The AGM is also where the changing of the guard happens. The new Executive team, new directors and constitutional officers take up their post, and we say goodbye and show our appreciation to some of the current Executive who have worked tirelessly for IRMS.
If you are a member of the IRMS you would have received the Annual Report published in the May Bulletin (due to hit your desks any day now). The annual report ensures that members are aware of the work that has been done by the directors of the Executive and the financial position of the IRMS. Thanks to Meic Pierce Owen, Joe Chapman and Jamie Burton for their assistance.
While my main focus has been on preparing for the AGM I have still managed to keep an eye on the very exciting programme that the conference committee, led by Reynold Leming have pulled together this year. I’ve also drawn the short straw and I'll be seeing you all on the Tuesday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed ready for another jam packed day (with gala dinner morning after survival packs as these proved really successful last year). You can find details of our full conference programme here.
I encourage all members who are attending the conference to also attend the AGM. It is a great opportunity for you to have your say in how the IRMS is run. Members who are unable to attend the conference are still encouraged to attend the AGM. Just let me know by Monday 9th of May if you plan to attend. I am looking forward to seeing you all at conference and hope to see many of you at the AGM.
If you have already booked in to attend then I shall see you on Sunday afternoon for Conference Fringe. If you are yet to book you can still register at the IRMS Conference website.
See you soon,
Fiona Kearney, AMIRMS
P.S. – You will have enough time to attend AGM and get suited and booted for the Gala dinner!
The Society offers four types of membership, from Corporate through to Student.
If you are not already a member and would like to join the Society, or if you know anyone who would be interested in joining, please complete the application form.
