Press Statement from the IRMS on the outcome of the EU Referendum.

Wednesday, 29 June 2016

In the referendum on Thursday 23 June 2016, the General Public of the UK voted to leave the European Union.

While the effects of this decision (including the exact date of the departure) are yet to be determined, the Information and Records Management Society (IRMS), like many other organisations, believes that there will be challenges and opportunities in the field of information and records management.

As a Society we will continue to monitor developments and provide content relevant guidance and resources to our members in order to support them, their organisations and the wider profession through the forthcoming period of change.

The IRMS is well-placed to do this – we have a large membership across a broad range of sectors and specialisms, as well as a strong ethos of collaboration and knowledge sharing, which enables us to adapt to our ever-changing environment.

Scott Sammons CIPP/E, AMIRMS
Chair, IRMS

Statements from IRMS and Act Now Training -

As Chair of the IRMS, I am genuinely proud to have overseen the development of this important qualification that offers all information professionals the opportunity to gain a solid grounding in contemporary Information Governance (IG). This qualification has relevance across all sectors and is equally valid for those looking to master the basics of contemporary IG as it is for those looking to progress to practitioner level study.

Meic Pierce Owen AMIRMS, FIIM
Chair, IRMS

I am really pleased to have been involved with the development of this groundbreaking new online qualification. I have used my experience in delivering Information Governance training for many years to help create a product which will hopefully meet a previously unmet demand amongst Information Management professionals.

IRMS Press Release: EU GDPR approved

Thursday, 14 April 2016
The new European Union General Data Protection Regulation was approved earlier today.
The introduction of this Regulation marks a step-change in data protection across the EU and beyond.
Its punitive fines and the changes in information and records practices that will spin out of its implementation as a consequence of the scale of these fines, will also mark a step-change in the manner in which the IG and wider IRM professions are perceived and valued across all sectors.
The IRMS welcomes the introduction of this Regulation and the positive changes it will bring in the use of information and records across the EU.
The Society also welcomes both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for us as a profession as the Regulation is implemented over the coming years and looks forward to partnering with other organisations active in this area (such as NADPO) to assist the profession in this implementation and in developing the professions understanding of the New Regulation.
In short, this is perhaps the most significant day relating to data and information in the History of  Europe.  We look forward to what lies ahead.
