The IRMS is looking for a new website!

One of the key aspects of the IRMS is its website. A few years ago we moved from one site to our current one and now, as time and technology has evolved, it is time to migrate to another one to keep up with the times.

The IRMS is therefore looking to revamp its current website for the benefit of our members and our volunteers that maintain and use the site. We are inviting suppliers of website design and hosting to work with us on this to meet our spec to deliver and maintain a user friendly, technology adaptable website for the Society. 

Below is a link to an invitation to tender document that outlines at a reasonably high level what the website project is looking to achieve and what suppliers we are looking for to help us get there and maintain it going forward.

Bursary places at April FARMER Conference

The IRMS is proud to announce that as part of our sponsorship of the forthcoming FARMER conference in Dundee, we're offering a bursary (covering the full registration fee and conference dinner) for those who cannot source alternative funding. 

FARMER is the UK and Ireland Forum for Archives and Records Management Education and Research, and this international conference is being held on 5-6 April and organised in conjunction with the University of Dundee Centre for Archive and Information Studies. The theme of the conference is 'Activation and impact - the societal role of records and record-keepers'.

IRMS Awards nominees announced!

We’re very pleased and excited to announce the nominees for this year’s IRMS Awards.

In a change to practice this year, we decided to reveal the nominees in order to celebrate their achievement, as being nominated by our members – your peers – is an honour in itself.

A huge congratulations to all of those listed below. Keep an eye out for more information about each of the nominees in the coming weeks. Judging will be by the Awards Panel (unless stated otherwise) and will get underway soon.

One notable exception to this is ‘Innovation of the Year’ which (as well as being a new award) is living up to its name by being decided by a public vote! More information on this to follow soon.

The winners will then be announced and their awards presented at our Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in Brighton on Monday 16 May 2016.  

Once again, this year’s field of nominees demonstrates and reflects the breadth of the profession, with organisations large and small, across public and private sectors, all represented.

This is currently being judged by the Bulletin Editor and the Communications Officer, and the winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner.

Alison North Award for New Professionals

New professionals were invited to submit an article for consideration. These are now being judged by Alison herself alongside our Vice-Chair, and winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner.

Nominations are invited for the IRMS Industry Awards for 2016... but you'll have to hurry - the closing date is midnight this Sunday,14 February 2016!  
This year, the nominations will be published. The winners will then be announced and their awards presented at our glittering Annual Gala and Awards Dinner at the Brighton Hilton Metropole on the evening of Monday 16 May 2016.
The following awards are up for grabs:
  • Innovation of the Year (new for 2016!)
  • Tribal Bulletin Content Award
  • Consultant / Supplier / Contractor of the Year (new for 2016!)
  • Special Award
  • Alison North Award for New Professionals (entry by essay)
  • Team of the Year
  • Professional of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
Nomination can either be on behalf of an entrant or by an entrant themselves and must be submitted in the form of an email sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the closing date. All nominations will receive an email receipt. 
Nominations must include
- name of the nominee/s
- the role/s and Organisation (if applicable) of the nominee/s
- which award they are nominated for
- the email contact details of the nominee/s
- a 150 word statement on why they are nominated
- name and membership number of the person nominating.
Please note that whilst all in the Profession are eligible for nomination, only members of the Society can nominate someone for an award.

New Records Management Toolkit for Schools published

The IRMS recently refreshed the highly popular Information Management Toolkit for Schools. The toolkit was created to assist schools in complying with current legislation by providing templates and other guidance for individual schools to use in implementing their own policies and procedures.

The Society is very grateful to Elizabeth Barber and her team for the creation and maintenance of this resource, as well as to Paul Duller and the Tribal Group for their funding and production support.

The toolkit is available via our website at Please note it is only a guide and should not be referred to as a ‘standard’ – any organisation wishing to implement the toolkit should seek advice from their local authority’s legal department before doing so.
