Derek Charman wall of remembrance

Earlier this week, Derek Charman passed away. 
With his passing, we have lost one of the most important figures in UK Archives and Records Management of recent times. 
Details of the funeral arrangements are, as posted on the listserves by Peter Emmerson, as follows:
The funeral will take place at the parish church of St Mary and All Angels, Holcot on Monday 1 February, 2016 at 1130, followed by refreshments in the Village Hall.
In amongst the many memorial tributes that are sure to be appear over the coming days, weeks and months, a piece will be included in the next edition of the IRMS Bulletin.  This will be pubished in early March.
Following a discussion with Peter, IRMS is pleased to open this wall of remembrance to offer members of the profession the opportunity to make their personal tributes and/or, if they wish, share their memories of Derek. Please use the comments facility to post messages.
The idea is that this will help allow the profession celebrate the life of Derek Charman- an individual who was active for so long and who achieved so much within our sector.
This wall will remain open until the end of February, after which time we shall gather the contributions submitted and present them to Derek's family in an appropriate hard copy format.

Nominations for posts on the Executive for the year 2016-2017 will run from 18 January to 31 March 2016. Details are set out below:

Both Meic Pierce Owen (Chair) and Rob Hutton (Director) have indicated that they do not wish to be considered for nomination.

How to nominate

  1. Nominations will be made in the form of a written nomination submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by midnight at the end of 31 March 2016. No other form of nomination (written or verbal) will be accepted.
  2. Nominations can be either in the form of a self-nomination (in which case no seconder is required) or in the form of a nominator and seconder.
  3. Both those being nominated and those nominating must be current members of the Society.
  4. Those being nominated must be made aware of (and in agreement with) their being nominated ahead of the nomination being submitted.
  5. Membership numbers (personal or corporate) must be included in nominations. 

Will there be elections?

Elections will take place where they are required.  In accordance with the Constitution, these will take place in the 12 weeks leading up to the AGM (The AGM will be @ 1630hrs on 16 May 2016 at the Brighton Hilton).

Governance and transparency

  1. Nominations are submitted direct to our Administrator at KSAM.  No one on the Exec  will have sight of the nominations received until after the closing date for nominations.
  2. Where a nomination received is unclear or lacks required elements, KSAM will engage directly with the individual/s involved to attempt to rectify the problem.
  3. All valid nominations received will be published to the membership within three working days of the closing date.
  4. In the event of a nomination is withdrawn, the reason will also be published to the membership.

IRMS Membership Survey 2016

As we move into 2016 and an ever changing environment for the Information & Records Management world the IRMS Executive is looking to you the membership to provide feedback on the offerings, structure and setup of the IRMS to ensure we continue forward in the best possible way for our members.

This short survey looks at how the IRMS is currently setup, its current benefits of membership and how those benefits are delivered to and accessed by members & the wider community.

We are all busy people so we’ve kept the survey short enough to take no more than about 15 minutes to complete. Also, if you so choose, you can select that your details be entered into a prize for the chance to win an iPad Air 2.

Your time and support to complete this survey is very much appreciated. Your responses will help shape our direction and ensure that we offer relevant and effective benefits and services to you our valued members.

Digital Preservation Training Programme Announcement

Good afternoon

I am very pleased to announce that IRMS are to partner with Preservica and ARA to deliver a series of Digital Preservation Events and Webinars focussed on the needs of records managers.

Details are included in the press release.

I am really excited about both this programme and this collaboration, which sees IRMS working with others to deliver content of benefit to our membership and also to the profession as a whole.

Each live event is jointly-hosted by the three partners and the delegate places evenly allocated between ourselves and ARA.
