The Key Themes for 2012 were;

Information Governance, Security and Law

Information assets are part of the life-blood of an Organisation. In this age of information explosion - with more and more information gathered, stored and moved about, how we best keep our information assets secure and best utilise them in a timely, appropriate and lawful manner is both increasingly important and increasing complex to achieve. The first day sessions explored contemporary Information Governance and Information Risk Management themes, issues and solutions from public sector, private sector and regulatory perspectives.

Head in the Cloud, Boxes in the Basement

Information and Records Management is in a dynamic place which sees the Profession on the one hand venturing into Cloud storage and other electronic futures and on the other maintaining runs of paper records in boxes.  The second day explored where we find ourselves and where we may be going whilst also offering practical sessions in both the cutting edge and the more traditional end of what we do.

2012 Keynote speakers;

  • Dr. Victoria Lemieux a records and information management expert with over twenty years of experience in government, industry, and education.  She is Director of the Centre for the Investigation of Financial Electronic Records and Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia.
  • Dave Snowden the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Cognitive Edge whose work extends across government and industry in a variety of fields including knowledge management, strategic planning, conflict resolution, weak signal detection, decision support and organisational development.
  • Julie McLeod Head of Research, Information and Communication Management at NorthumbriaUniversity and is theUK’s only professor of Information and Records Management having spend her earlier career in industry delivering and managing information and records management services in the electronics and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Oliver Morley the Chief Executive of The National, Keeper of Public Records and Historic Manuscripts Commissioner, and also government's Head of Profession in Knowledge and Information Management having previously lead the team launching the 1911 census and TNA’s online strategy as Director of Customer and Business Development. 
  • David Smith the Deputy Information Commissioner and Director of Data Protection

Training Stream

At the 2012 Conference training streams were delivered by industry experts.

John Wilson, JMW Mosaic

John delivered a training stream masterclass entitled "Compliance! Compliance! Compliance! Strategies for and benefits realisation", covering topics including developing measures to monitor compliance with standards and assess benefits realisation, records management maturity models, information gathering and analysis and methods of providing feedback to stakeholders.

Alison North, AN Information Ltd

Alison presented an interactive training session entitled. “Information Governance – How to determine what sort of records management programme your organisation really needs, and, what you can do to deliver it”.

Ibrahim Hasan, Act Now Training

Ibrahim facilitied an interactive workshop, teaching delegates the basics of the Data Protection Act, as well as the latest developments in this area including the new draft EU Data Protection Regulation.
