Outstanding achievements and unsung heroes in information governance, records management, data protection, and information security were honoured at the prestigious IRMS Awards 2024 ceremony in Brighton.
Each year, the Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) recognises individuals and teams who demonstrate innovation, leadership, and commitment to best practice in the management of information.
Honouring Leading Professionals
The Information and Records Management Professional of the Year was awarded to Sophie Moss, Deputy Records Manager at the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Sophie led the delivery of a major Microsoft 365 SharePoint migration from a legacy system, engaging teams across the organisation and earning an internal development award for her outstanding leadership.
Team Excellence Recognised
The Public Inquiries KIM Support Unit at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities received the Team of the Year award for its comprehensive support to high-profile inquiries, including Grenfell Tower, COVID-19, and the Manchester Arena attack.
The Department also celebrated individual success, with David Smith, Deputy Director of Knowledge and Information Management and Fellow of the IRMS, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. His distinguished career spans over 40 years of dedication to information management.
Driving Innovation
The Innovation of the Year award was presented to the Records Management Team at The Pensions Regulator for implementing a pioneering framework to protect and manage critical information assets. This initiative highlights how information professionals continue to challenge conventional practices and embed resilience within their organisations.
IRMS Chair’s Statement
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Tides of Change: How to Survive and Thrive in a Sea of Information”, IRMS Chair Jaana Pinnick praised the award recipients:
“Each of our worthy winners has demonstrated the tenacity, creativity, and enthusiasm to help their organisations and the wider information and records management community. I am delighted to be able to reward their achievements.”
