Drumroll please... for our Bursary Winners!

Many congratulations to our conference bursary winners and thank you to everyone who applied. Sadly, we only had two places to give away but we hope to see you at this or a future conference if you were unsuccessful.

New Generation Bursary

Tomisona Olajire (Medway Council, Kent)

Tomisona is already a Senior Information Governance Officer at the Council and enjoys the responsibility and challenges of being a young professional in a large organisation, saying:

“Information governance is not just my job, it is something I genuinely care about”.

Tomisona’s application was very detailed, and the panel were impressed by her passion and commitment to translating conference insights into measurable improvements.

Diversity and Inclusion Bursary

Florence Jillett (University of the West of England, Cardiff)

Florence is a part-time Post Graduate Information Management student and student member of the IRMS. She works in the civil service and was inspired to apply for a bursary by colleagues who have attended the conference; and she can’t wait to experience it herself.

Florence has big plans to save the world through information management, so she will be a force to be reckoned with in the future!

We hope our winners have a wonderful conference and we look forward to a report of their experiences. If you are attending, please give them a big IRMS welcome.

You’ll need to get your skates on if you are planning to attend the conference! The main resort hotel fully booked and limited places remaining at the nearby hotel so book your place quickly if you would like to join us. Swing into Spring with the March Bulletin

The March Bulletin is now available and is an Information Law special edition.

Laura Palmariello (who is our new Schools Group Chair) offers an insightful and reassuring look at the Data Use and Access Act, swiftly followed by Suzie Wilson and Edward Machin on demystifying DSARs.

Privacy and AI are topics that are never far from the news and evolving faster than anyone can legislate, so read up on what’s going on. FOI is now grown up, but how has it developed and what next for the regime?

Those are just a few of the highlights and there is much more packed in, including ‘Passing the Laugh Test’.

Coming Soon - Update to the IRMS Toolkit for Schools

A message from Laura PalmarielloSchools Group Chair

“I’m excited to share news that we will soon publish an update to the IRMS Toolkit for Schools.

This update has been prompted by new statutory requirements on the recording and reporting of restrictive interventions, coming into force from 1 April 2026.

The update will include clearer guidance on what must be recorded, how incident records should be managed at both pupil and school level, and how long different records should be retained.

It will ensure the toolkit remains current and aligned with the latest legal frameworks.

Further details will be shared with members once the update is published.”

Working Group Legal Admissibility Standard BS10008

Roger Pooleour Professional Standards Director is delighted to advise members that the BSI has agreed to establish a working group to review the Legal Admissibility Standard, BS10008 parts 1 and 2.

In his role as Professional Standards Director, Roger will sit on the working group and keep us advised of developments.

We love feedback!

So please keep it coming. If anything isn’t working or you find we are communicating too much, not enough or not in the right way please let us know.

We’d also love any positive thoughts you have about the work of IRMS or suggestions about how we could improve.

A big thank you to our partners and supporters for helping to deliver great services to our members
