Morning speakers
James Sheard, Veritau , “It’s all downhill from here!” – Future Issues for Information Governance Professionals
This session will cover upcoming hurdles for Information Governance professionals.
We’ll briefly discuss the new Data Protection Bill and the consequences of Artificial Intelligence, but we’ll also talk about other issues – some that are already here, and others that are swiftly approaching; these include:
- The rise of “paper terrorism”, FOI activism and an increased use of access rights.
- The negative public perception of data protection as “red tape”.
- Web 3.0 and blockchain.
- The increased use of surveillance technology.
---
Emma Godfree, iSTORM
, More Than Just The Law
This session will focus on looking beyond the minimum standard and the typical template. How to make rights request as easy as possible for the data subject and therefore organisations. Asking attendees to consider that the law has been there for a while now, it is time to start thinking about something new.
Some examples will be given of companies/ organisations who have thought outside of the box and are looking at rights in different ways. I will ask attendees to think about who their data subjects are and what their needs would be. The session will focus on organisations thinking about data subject rights from the perspective of the data subject.

Morning speakers (3)
James Bore, Bores Group Ltd,
The impossibility of recovering protection for information rights unless you're a megacorp. ---- Matt Collinge, Slalom, Pulled apart by horses- an overview of the UK and EU proposals for AI regulation and what this might mean for organizations Generative AI seems to be all the rage at the moment, with an endless stream of stories telling us the best and worst it can have to offer. As always, regulators have been slow to catch up, with the EU and UK government setting out proposals and their vision for use and development of AI. This session will give you a view on the current state of each piece of regulation, key themes to look out for as each regulation develops and what, if anything, can be done to prepare ourselves. ---- Emily Overton, Information Rights, Group Chair, IRMS Update Was supposed to be a Discord intro but Musk has messed with my feeds and it requires some TLC.

Afternoon speakers (2)
Rich Merrygold, iSTORM, Losing control of personal data, a social media journey. This session will look into the challenges already faced by social media users. The depth of information companies hold, how it is accessed, who it is shared with and ultimately, what happens when you lose control of your own online identity.
----- Craig Clark, Clark & Company Information Governance Services Limited, Children's Data in the Public Domain: What Could Possibly Go Wrong with Rights? Social media is awash with photos, videos and other personal data posted by proud parents and families and children themselves on a scale that is unprecedented. In this ‘post and forget’ world, what happens when that data is used by an organisation for their own purposes? This session explores how data in the public domain is being used for far more than originally intended and the implact on peoples rights.
