Five Fab Features of the new IRMS Website
1. Member Profiles
The single biggest change that our new website has brought is the ability for you to manage your membership, including updating your details and (when the time comes) taking advantage of a more efficient renewals process. This all happens via your member profile, through which you can also choose what notifications you receive, share information about your skills and experience, and even write a blog or set up other personal pages. The new IRMS website puts you in control.
2. News Feed and Connections
The new site also opens up a range of social interactions, allowing you to make connections with fellow information professionals from across the Society's 1000+ membership, and join any number of our geographic and special interest groups. Logging in to the website takes you straight to your own news feed, showing updates from your connections and groups as well as a small number of 'ambassadors' from the Leadership Team. We're bringing the IRM community together like never before.
3. Group Events
One of the Society's most popular activities is our extensive series of group events and now it's easier than ever to sign up for these fantastic learning and networking opportunities. Event registration is now managed through the website, and as an IRMS member, your details will be automatically entered and ready to go. If you've missed out on attending, don't worry - you can find presentations and event reviews via the relevant group's page, and post questions to those who were there.
4. Improved Search
The IRMS website contains a range of valuable resources, some of which are for members only while others are available to the whole profession. Not only does the new layout of the website help you browse through these, but the improved search makes it easy to find what you're looking for, simply by clicking on the search icon in the top-right corner of every page. If you get stuck or have any queries, use the Contact Us link to get in touch with our team.
5. A Fresh New Look
Finally, the revamp has given the website a completely new look, with a particularly eye-catching homepage highlighting the Society's main activities and initiatives. You'll still find all the information and links you need but these are now much more prominently and logically laid out. To access the personal and social area of the site, either sign in or click on 'My Profile' at the top of any page; to revert to the content side, click on the IRMS logo in the top-left corner.
*** ADDED SEPTEMBER 2017 ***
The modernised IRMS website (www.irms.org.uk) was launched during our Conference weekend in May 2017. Despite a few teething problems, take-up was very good, with well over 1000 members registered within a couple of weeks and many quickly starting to use the new interactive features.
We hope visitors to the website like the new look, and with content continuing to be developed, members will see more of the benefits of the new platform over the coming months as more events, discussions and resources are added.
The new site delivers a number of dynamic features including:
- Self-service membership administration and a semi-automated renewal process
- Simple, standardised registration for Groups events with priority access for members
- Email communications tailored to members based on location, interests and preferences
- Easily accessible and user-friendly discussion forums, blogs and event outputs
- Refreshed content – updated and streamlined with more images and improved search
At the launch, all existing member records were transferred to the new system and members were prompted to set up an online profile which gives them access to members-only content and enables them to enjoy the site's interactive features. Any new members wishing to join in future will do so directly via the website.
The new site will take some time to become established and there may be some areas that are incomplete or do not work as intended in the first few weeks. We would very much appreciate members' feedback to identify these.
Above all, we hope all visitors enjoy the new website and we encourage members to make the most of the new functionality.
