The IRMS Conference team is delighted to announce our first two keynotes for next year's showpiece in Birmingham on 17-19 May 2020.
Calum Liddle
Calum Liddle is the legal research lead at Facebook’s Office of the Data Protection Officer (DPO). He advises the Controller on its data protection obligations on projects as wide ranging as Calibra, the Facebook wallet for a new virtual cryptocurrency, to Oculus and virtual reality ambitions.
At the IRMS Conference, Calum will speak about ‘The Journey, Challenges, Structure and Strategy’ of his team, giving a unique insight into the challenge of creating an entirely new function for the DPO within the social media firm – grappling with the most significant piece of legislation affecting Facebook’s business, in the midst of an extraordinary political and social context.
It's sure to be an eagerly anticipated presentation and we're excited about giving our delegates a unique opportunity to get the inside story on how Facebook runs its data protection operations, and to learn lessons that they can take back to their own organisations.
Calum has a wealth of experience across the information management field, including:
- Working as a case officer for the Information Commissioner’s Office
- Senior information governance roles in local government and the NHS
- Undertaking a PhD in comparative freedom of information legislation
- Volunteering for the Campaign for Freedom of Information in Scotland
He is also the co-founder of the London Data Protection Practitioners’s Network, a pre-eminent group of privacy experts.
Ivana Bartoletti
Ivana Bartoletti is Head of Privacy and Data Protection at Gemserv, a public speaker and media commentator. In her day job, Ivana helps businesses with their privacy by design programmes especially in relation to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology.
Ivana was awarded ‘Woman of the Year’ (2019) in the Cyber Security Awards in recognition of her growing reputation as an advocate of equality, privacy and ethics at the heart of tech and AI.
She is a sought-after commentator for the BBC, Sky and other major broadcasters and news outlets (Guardian, Telegraph) on headline stories where the tech economy intersects with privacy and data law and politics.
We are delighted to welcome Ivana to the 2020 IRMS Conference where she will be speaking about 'Privacy and Ethics in the Age of Big Data and Algorithms', covering:
- Privacy challenges with data analytics and AI
- Regulatory landscape, AI principles and guidelines
- How to translate principles into practice
Ivana’s experience working for the NHS, Barclays, Sky and now Gemserv, coupled with her knowledge of the latest technologies that our members are grappling with will be invaluable, as we look at the applications, opportunities and challenges presented, particularly by machine learning and AI.
