The IRMS has celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) for many years now. It is an important day for us, because it's a dedicated day to celebrate the achievements of our female members and volunteers, and to encourage more gender parity in the field. We’re also using today as an opportunity to publish the summary results of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion survey we ran at the end of last year. Thank you so much to everyone who took part - the initial results are available online now! The Executive Team are in the process of analysing the data and collating the feedback provided in order to sharpen our equality, diversity and inclusion priorities.
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge, and in addition to challenging gender bias and inequality, the IRMS is choosing to challenge our female members to take on a larger role in the Society. Choose to challenge "bias in the boardroom" and nominate yourself (or another woman!) for a position on the Executive Team this year. We’re not far off - 47% of the current Executive Team are women - but only one member of the Constitutional Officers Group (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) is female. Last year there were none and there hasn't been a female Chair in over 20 years. There are a handful of Group Chair vacancies, too, and we are always looking for hosts for monthly #IRMSHours and contributors to the IRMS's bi-monthly magazine, the Bulletin. And we're definitely not challenging our non-female members to stay away - we want everyone to play a bigger part in the Society!
