The IRMS is supporting apprenticeship initiatives

One of the activities we do as a professional body is to support and encourage different
ways people can enter the information profession. To this end we wanted to update you on 2 key
developments that are underway, one of which we would appreciate your input into.

One of the ways that someone can enter the profession is through an apprenticeship. The IRMS was
therefore pleased to support the new Data Protection and Information Governance apprenticeship
that has been drafted recently. It has now been approved and enters its final stage before hopefully
launching fully to the public next year. Our thanks and appreciation goes to the Institute for
Apprenticeships' Trailblazer group that have been leading on this for all their hard work. A special
thanks goes to Barry Moult who has been our link to the group supported by the Accreditation
Subcommittee. We’ll be in touch with updates on this again soon but if you have any questions in
the meantime, do get in touch.

We are also working with ARA to support their work with the National Archives to further develop
the Archivist and Records Manager apprenticeship program. They have launched a short survey,
aimed at employers, to help us better understand the current job market. They are also using the
survey to promote two ARA initiatives funded by The National Archives (UK). One will support the
new Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager apprenticeship by offering four weeks paid ‘pre-
apprenticeship’ work experience. The other initiative will fund opportunities for existing
support/admin staff to study one online module from an ARA-accredited post-graduate course.

Please complete the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WQCSM2H to share your
recruitment insights and register your interest in the two ARA/TNA career initiatives.

The survey takes approximately three minutes to complete and will close on 24th November. For
further information on this survey please contact Chris Sheridan at chris.sheridan@archives.org.uk.
