The IRMS is delighted to announce the launch of the Microsoft 365 Maturity Model. Developed during 2022 by The National Archives, the Microsoft 365 Maturity Model has been designed to help organisations improve the way that they are governing information in Microsoft 365.
The Model is a spreadsheet containing a range of questions around some of the key areas of Microsoft 365, with each of these questions having a range of different technical approaches. In order to establish what 'good' looks like, a cross-Government benchmarking exercise was run, which graded each of these technical approaches were graded as being either 'inadequate', ‘adequate’ and ‘optimal’ information governance practice. This exercise has ensured that the Microsoft 365 Maturity Model is a useful guide to determine best practices in Microsoft 365 that is based upon the combined views of multiple Information Governance experts.
Going forwards, the Microsoft 365 Maturity Model will be maintained and enhanced by the IRMS. Importantly, the Microsoft 365 Maturity Model is freely available for everyone to use to improve the way information is managed within their organisations.
