| 2020 Award Winners |
Here are the 2020 IRMS Award Winners!
Each year the IRMS recognises excellence in the field of information management with our prestigious Industry Awards. Due to COVID19 restrictions we were unable to hold our Gala Dinner this year, therefore we held an online ceremony and will also take a moment at the Ceremony in 2021 to recognise the 2020 winners. Below is the winner for each category and a little summary of who they are from their nomination statements. You can see everyone that was nominated on the nominations page. While we cannot give an award to everyone, to be nominated for an award can be its own reward. See the very bottom of this page for the IRMS Awards event video on YouTube.
Professional of the Year: We happen to believe that the professionals in the Information and Records Management profession are some of the best in the world. But we can't give everyone an award. Therefore, we look for examples of people who not only excel in their own career but also help others to excel in theirs too. This year's winner lives up to that reputation and then some. Graham not only excels at his work in the Higher Education sector but also speaks at IRMS events, volunteers to give back to the profession where he can and never turns down a question or to offer to help if someone wants to learn more. Especially about the world of Data Governance and Microsoft 365. It is therefore the IRMS's pleasure to confirm that the New Professional of the Year for 2020 is Graham Snow.
Team of the Year: Where there are fantastic professionals out there, there are some fantastic teams made up of some fantastic professionals too! Each with people of varying experience and skill sets, all doing things to advance their own organisation and, potentially, support others too. Therefore, each year we look for that team that really is an example of team power! The team at Historic Environment Scotland are the golden example of team power! From Data Protection to Records Management and from the day to day through to huge changes in how HES handles information and records they are a power house at HES. It is therefore the IRMS's pleasure to confirm that the Team of the Year for 2020 is Historic Environment Scotland's Information Governance Team.
Lifetime Achievement: To be award a lifetime achievement award from the IRMS we are looking for someone who has is a credit to the profession or their organisation. Someone who, over the course of their career (no matter how long), has improved their organisation, improved the practice or maybe improved the profession. And if you've done all 3 then you are a Lifetime super star. Barry Moult would definitely tick all 3. Over the course of his career in the health side of Information Governance, having first been a nurse for many years, Barry has continually shown a commitment to pushing for excellence. Encouraging others to learn and enter the profession and promoting effective IG within the organisations he has worked in. Even in retirement Barry continues to promote best practice and the wider profession as a trainer, speaker, lead on apprenticeships and recently getting involved with the development of IRMS accreditation. An IRMS Fellow, ICO Practitioner of the Year 2020, Volunteer, Friend, Mentor or just 'Dave' to some people.
It is therefore the IRMS's great honour to award the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020 to Barry Moult.
Supplier of the Year: You would expect suppliers of Information and Records Management services to go above and beyond for their clients and customers. However, what about those ones that create something special? Something that money can't buy and something that means you grow from their services in more ways than you thought you would. You learn more from them than you thought you would. You experience more from them than you thought you would. Those suppliers are truly special. And we think they should be celebrated and encouraged. Oyster IMS being a brilliant example of that. Their nominee, CHAS, is one of their clients and thinks so highly of them that their statement won over the voting membership with a clear majority. Supportive, encouraging, humble - a true partnership that encourages their clients to grow and do what's right for them, not what's right for 'repeat business'. It is therefore the IRMS's pleasure to confirm that the Supplier of the Year for 2020 is Oyster IMS.
Innovation of the Year: Information and Records Management, as a practice, faces many challenges. Not only in how it works practically, but also how it can keep up with how the world and ways of working are changing. From innovative technical solutions through to innovative ways to grab attention and raise awareness of 'soft skills', it all helps 'the cause' and develops the profession. As a training provider, Leadership Through Data at relatively young, but have had a new approach to how people learn practical skills in Information Governance. From learning through practical games to catering for all learning styles, their training approach gives the traditional IG related content in new, interactive, and intuitive ways to capture your imagination and get you involved. Sometimes quite literally if you're playing Data Protection snakes and ladders! It is therefore the IRMS's pleasure to confirm that the Innovation of the Year for 2020 is the training approach at Leadership Through Data.
The Alison North New Professionals Award: This year has seen the Society, and the wider awards programme, face many challenges. Based on the submissions of each nominee, the New Professionals Award panel decided to issue a shared recognition to all 4 entrants. You'll be able to read their submissions in the bulletin over the next couple of editions so watch out! Therefore we celebrate and recognise:
Author of the Year: Every edition of the IRMS Bulletin is packed with great content and insights from professionals of all ages, experiences and backgrounds. Each year, the bulletin team create a shortlist of authors that have put forward some great content for our members to enjoy and benefit from. This year is no different with Rob's contributions in editions 209, 210 and 213 on Microsoft 365 being insightful, informative and incredibly useful. Through his insights in his articles through to his presentations at IRMS events, Rob never ceases to inform and empower colleagues with his knowledge and ability to explain some complex areas of 365 to the audience. It is therefore the IRMS' pleasure to confirm that the IRMS Bulletin Author of the Year is Robert Bath.
Fellowships: Fellowship of the IRMS is the senior degree of individual professional membership. It is awarded those members of ten years or more standing who have, in the opinion of their peers, attained appropriate eminence, authority or seniority. Non-members of the Society deemed worthy can be awarded honorary fellowships. We therefore welcomed the below entrants into the IRMS College of Fellows for 2020:
Special Recognition: Both the IRMS Executive and the Awards Panel has the power to issue special awards each year for any organisation or person they feel is worthy of a little recognition or thanks for work they have done. This year, the Executive wanted to show its thanks and appreciation to 2 of our volunteers who have stood down from the Executive at the AGM in May 2020.
All our winners join a proud history of previous award winners so we say congratulations to them all and hope to see them in person at the 2021 awards ceremony! And talking of which, the 2021 awards are now open for nominations! Therefore if there is someone (organisation or person) that you feel deserves some recognition, head to www.irms.org.uk/awards2021 to see about how to nominate them! If you have any queries about the IRMS Awards, please get in touch with the Awards team via awards@irms.org.uk.
